Course one: 21, 28 April, 5, 12 May, 3 June (5 days in total). Tutor: Sarah.

Cornwall College Camborne, Opie Building, Room E105. 9.30-4.30pm

 

How much does it cost?
This 5 day programme costs £500, but if you undertake the short assignment you could be eligible for funding to cover these costs. Tea, coffee and lunch will be provided.

 

What will I learn?

In order to gain a good understanding of working with JavaScript, you will start by learning the basic principles such as how to embed JavaScript into HTML and using scripting commands. You will also learn functional programming and object oriented programming using JavaScript, and how websites interact with this important programming language.

 

In learning the basic JavaScript principles, you will be able to:

  • Identify key JavaScript elements
  • Critically compare JavaScript with other scripting languages
  • Investigate the differences between client side and server side applications
  • Embed JavaScript into HTML
  • Define JavaScript Data Types and variables
  • Use expressions, operators, concatenation and addition
  • Use scripting commands
  • Define operator precedence

As well as this, you will be able to understand functional programming using JavaScript and be comfortable with:

  • Explaining how to use JavaScript functions
  • Managing the transfer of data between functions
  • Managing the use of global and local variables

It is also important that you understand object oriented programming using JavaScript, and are able to:

  • Explain the JavaScript object model
  • Create and deploy JavaScript objects
  • Manage the passing of data between different JavaScript objects

We will also cover how web sites interact with JavaScript, and will:

  • Explain the use of form objects in JavaScript
  • Use form objects when building web applications
  • Manage the use of cookies in web applications
  • Use functions and variables within framesets
